Melissa G. Trevino

Melissa Trevino is a Product Management Director for Corporate Development. She focuses on sourcing and managing IP commercialization and licensing deals with outside partners.

For more than 20 years, Melissa has worked to help consumers manage their financial goals through product development, process engineering, marketing communications, and innovation leadership.

Melissa is the daughter, sister, and niece of former Navy and Marine Corps service members. When not focused on helping bring USAA's mission to life, she travels the world and volunteers with a local non-profit to share her passion for outdoor adventures with underprivileged youth.

Michael Smith

Michael Smith oversees Acquisitions, Divestitures and co-manages USAA's Corporate Venture Capital portfolio with a focus on investments in InsurTech, AI/ML, Security, and Enterprise Software. Michael serves on the Board of Directors for Snapsheet and RepairPal, Inc.

Before joining USAA in 2010, Michael was a Director at Huron Consulting Group, advising clients on corporate strategy and valuation matters. Earlier in his career, Michael worked as a consultant at Deloitte and PwC helping clients successfully optimize costs. Michael earned a BBA from The University of Texas at Austin and his MBA from London Business School.

Mike Chaparro

Mike Chaparro is Corporate Development Principal. He manages all venture capital investment data and patent portfolio data for USAA. His team also develops the market and financial analyses used to monetize USAA intellectual property.

Before joining USAA in 2014, Mike served in the Navy as Chief Engineer aboard ship and as engineering plant inspector for the Atlantic Fleet. He previously served as Director of Technology Integration at the Joint Information Operations Warfare Command where his team designed analytic solutions for the Defense Department Intelligence Community.

Mike holds a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington and earned his MBA at the Naval Postgraduate School.

Moema Matsoso

Moema Matsoso sources and executes venture investments in P&C and Life insurance technologies (InsurTech). Moema has spent his career in the insurance industry with assignments in finance, strategy, innovation and operations. Before joining USAA in 2016, he worked at Nationwide Insurance on strategies for expense reduction and capital markets and State Farm Insurance on daily transactions and controls. Moema earned a bachelor's degree in Accounting from Brigham Young University-Hawaii and his MBA from the Mendoza School of Business, University of Notre Dame.

Nathan McKinley

Nathan McKinley is Vice President, Corporate Development, and leads USAA's efforts in venture capital, acquisitions/divestitures, joint ventures and intellectual property (IP) commercialization. He serves on USAA's Strategic Transactions Committee and manages a combined portfolio of investments and IP in excess of $1B. He also serves on the Board of Directors for BillGO and MX Technologies.

Nathan has nearly three decades of leadership and operational experience in financial services. He joined USAA in September 2006 and led Bank Product Management, Retail Marketing, Enterprise Innovation, and the Military Affinity Group. He was previously Senior Vice President of Product Development for Bank of America. He started his career at MBNA America in 1990 (acquired by BofA in 2006). He has worked in business development, finance, credit, customer service, collections and group administration.

Nathan graduated with honors from Georgetown University with a finance degree and received his MBA from the University of Baltimore. Nathan is a National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) Board Leadership Fellow.

Nathan's dad and both grandfathers served their country in the Army. Nathan is the proud father of twins, Natalie and Ethan.

Neff Hudson

Neff Hudson is Vice President, Corporate Development. He manages the prospect pipeline for USAA's venture capital fund, evaluating 1000-plus startups per year through a network of partnerships and five LP investments. Neff also leads commercialization efforts for USAA's 900-plus patent portfolio. He serves as a board observer for Automat and an advisory board member for Fraser-McCombs Capital and USAA's Corporate Responsibility team.

Neff has held a variety of leadership positions in digital operations, strategy and design, including channel manager of USAA.com and USAA Mobile. During his tenure, USAA Digital was ranked as the top personal financial services platform by Javelin Research and Forrester Research. Neff is a 19-year USAA employee and a lifelong USAA member; his father and two brothers served in the Army, and he was born in a military hospital overseas.

Paco Rivera

Paco Rivera is Assistant Vice President, Corporate Development. He executes and oversees venture capital investments in support of USAA Bank and enterprise efforts and leads due diligence for acquisitions and divestitures. Paco currently serves as a board member for Enveil and as a board observer for ID.me. He previously served as board member for Robin (acquired by Rakuten), Narrative Science (acquired by Salesforce), board observer for MindMeld (acquired by Cisco), ObserveIT (acquired by Proofpoint), and ClickSWITCH (acquired by Q2 Holdings) where USAA realized successful exits. He currently holds the NACD (National Association of Corporate Directors) Directorship Certification.

Paco has led financial planning and analysis teams in Corporate Finance and USAA Bank since joining in 2011. He previously held corporate finance and strategy roles at Verizon, Merck & Co., Banco Popular de Puerto Rico and Bank of America. Key efforts include support for the 2011 Terremark ($1.4B) and 2007 Cybertrust ($450M) acquisitions, and for the launch of the Verizon Digital Media Services business unit. Paco began his career as an analyst covering Telecommunications for Banc of America Securities LLC. He held the Series 7 and 63 licenses.

He holds a bachelor's degree in Finance from the University of Puerto Rico and an MBA from the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.

Maranda Martinez

Maranda Martinez is the Executive Assistant for the Corporate Development team. Maranda began her career with USAA in 2018 working directly with members in Consumer Lending. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor's in Business Economics from Ashford University. In her free time, she loves to spend time with her family and exploring the outdoors.

Steve Harrison

Steve Harrison leads the development of USAA's pipeline for equity investments. With nearly 20 years of experience at USAA, Steve has a broad understanding of USAA business opportunities and a strong network of business sponsors. He also is a champion of design thinking and has lectured at Stanford.

Steve Smoot

Steve Smoot is a Lead Decision Science Analyst in Corporate Development. He supports equity investments and IP commercialization deals with market sizing, industry evaluations, viability assessments and cost/benefit analyses. Steve joined USAA in 1985 and has held a variety of positions in P&C Insurance, Life Insurance, Enterprise Marketing and Corporate Finance with specialized experience in data warehousing, data mining, sales, customer service and marketing systems.

He has a bachelor's degree in Marketing and an MBA in Finance from UTSA. He also holds the ChFC designation and has previously been licensed with Series 7 and 63. He earned the Certified Patent Valuation Analyst and the Certified Emerging Company Analyst designations in 2018.

Susan Wright

Susan Wright sources and executes Intellectual Property (IP) commercialization efforts for USAA. Providing leadership to internal and external cross-functional teams, Susan brings USAA Innovation and IP solutions to market.

Prior to joining USAA, Susan served in the U.S. Air Force as a warranted Contracting Officer, a Training Command instructor, and the Career-Development-Course writer for Contracting Specialists. Susan earned her bachelor's degree in Education from Wayland Baptist University, an Executive Certificate in Negotiations from the University of Notre Dame, and industry certifications in Strategic Alliances and Product Management.

Susan enjoys volunteering at the local food bank and with Habitat for Humanity and spending time with her growing Texas family.

Bill Storey

As a member of the Corporate Development team, Bill Storey supports USAA's venture capital investments, acquisitions, divestitures, and joint ventures. Before joining USAA, Bill worked in M&A consulting and in the Corporate Development and Strategy group for a large engineering corporation. Prior to that, Bill worked as a patent attorney for a large law firm, the federal government, and in IP licensing

Bill has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut, a J.D. from William & Mary Law School, and an M.B.A. from the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business.

Audrey Barrett

As a member of the Corporate Development team, Audrey's primary role is facilitating the execution of venture capital investments. Prior to joining USAA in 2021, Audrey worked in residential real estate sales as an agent at the Phyllis Browning Company.


Audrey has earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Southern Methodist University, and MBA from the University of Texas at Tyler, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from St. Mary's University School of Law. Both her father and grandfather served their country in the Army. In her spare time, Audrey enjoys travelling, spending time outdoors with her family, and trying new restaurants.

Derek George

As a member of the Corporate Development team, Derek George works directly with executive management to identify, source, and execute venture capital investments supporting USAA Bank and enterprise efforts.

Prior to joining USAA in 2016, Derek worked in the Strategy and Development department for CST Brands, a Valero Energy Corporation spin-off company. Before the corporate sector, Derek proudly served as an Infantry Officer in the United States Army. Derek is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point with a Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering and received his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Josh Kirby

Josh Kirby is a Reporting Analyst in Corporate Development. He is responsible for the continual improvement of market and financial reporting processes used in USAA venture capital investments and intellectual property commercialization deals.

Prior to joining USAA, Josh was a Corporate Business Analyst and served as a Logistics Officer in the United States Army. He currently holds a BA degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio and is a Certified Patent Valuation Analyst. Josh is currently pursuing an MBA coupled with certifications in technology entrepreneurship.

Elisheba Stallworth

As Corporate Development Principal, Elisheba is focused on Acquisitions, Divestitures and USAA's Corporate Venture Capital portfolio.

Before joining USAA in 2022, Elisheba spent nearly a decade in Strategy & Corporate Development at Southwest Gas (Las Vegas, NV). Her responsibilities in this role included M&A, valuations, due diligence, post-acquisition transition/integration management support, strategic transactions preparation, and investor relations. She supported a large acquisition by Southwest Gas Holdings, Inc. in 2021 (US$1.975 billion TEV). She was also responsible for supporting the Company Owned Life Insurance (COLI) program.

Prior to joining Southwest Gas in 2010, she spent more than a decade at DTE Energy (Detroit, MI).

Elisheba likes to contribute toward non-profit organizations that care for children's needs in her community. Both of her grandfathers served in the U.S. Army.
